Trash & Recycling

The Town of Pierson contracts with FCC Environmental for residential solid waste collection and recycling services. All property owners with a residential dwelling in the Town limits will be billed annually through a non-ad valorem assessment included on your property tax bill. 

The current solid waste collection contract with FCC Environmental does not include commercial collection service. Commercial accounts may contract directly with a waste collection and disposal company of their choice for front-loading and roll-off containers.

Residential collection will occur between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM on the designated collection day. Containers must be left no more than ten (10) feet from the curb of your residence.

Collection days and services are as follows:

Monday - Household Garbage, Bulk Items, Recycling
Tuesday - Yard Waste

    COLLECTION SERVICES DETAILS
    Garbage Collection
    Typical household garbage
    • One (1) ninety-five (95) gallon container
    • Two (2) additional thirty-two (32) gallon containers
    • All residential household garbage shall be properly contained in solid waste containers
    Bulk Item Collection
    Furniture, carpet, appliances, boxes, waste tires, etc.
    • Limited to four (4) bulk items per week
    • Household carpet should be no greater than four (4) feet x eight (8) feet, rolled, taped, or tied and weigh less than sixty (60) pounds
    Recyclable Materials Collection
    Newspapers, glass containers, aluminum cans, plastic bottles
    • Up to two (2) eighteen (18) gallon recycling bins
    • Recyclable materials may also be placed at the curb in paper boxes or paper bags
    • Please use separate containers for:
      • Fiber Container:
        • Mixed office paper
        • Corrugated cardboard containers
        • Junk mail
        • Magazines/phonebooks
        • Newspapers
      • Co-mingled Container:
        • Aluminum cans
        • Plastic bottles (coded 1 & 2)
        • Glass bottles (green, clear, or amber)
    Yard Waste Collection
    Leaves, grass, shrubbery cuttings, vines, palm fronds, tree limbs
    • Limited to an average of eight (8) thirty-two (32) gallon containers per residential unit per week, or equivalent piles not to exceed four (4) cubic yards per week
    • Palm fronds and limbs may be neatly stacked and shall not be required to be bundled
    • Limbs shall not exceed four (4) feet in length, one (1) feet in diameter, or sixty (60) pounds
    • Land clearing and whole trees are NOT included in this service

    FCC Environmental and the Town of Pierson shall not collect or dispose of hazardous, biological, or biomedical waste. FCC Environmental will refuse collection if it is believed that a customer is depositing hazardous, biological, or biomedical waste for collection.

    All Pierson residents in unincorporated Pierson are serviced by Volusia County.


    Town of Pierson Dump Sites

    Town of Pierson operates two dump sites for residents to use. These are open by appointment only. You must call Pierson Town Center to gain access. Please see the available times for each location below.

    • No commercial dumping allowed

    • Dump sites are to be used by Town of Pierson residents only (ID required)

    • Prohibited items: tires, batteries, major appliances, yard waste, household garbage, medical or septic waste, bottled cylinders, fluorescent light bulbs/tubes


    PIERSON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT - N. CENTER ST


    This dump site is located on the north side of the airport property. This site accepts LIGHT CONSTRUCTION and DRY BULKY ITEMS ONLY. To access this site, turn east onto the airport access driveway from N. Center St (US Highway 17) and follow the dirt driveway to the north (left).

    This dump site accepts BRUSH and VEGETATIVE DEBRIS ONLY.
